PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Cybersecurity Specialist eliminates obstacles that prevent students, teachers, school leaders, and departmental staff from focusing on instruction and the work that supports instruction every day. The Cybersecurity Specialist accomplishes this by planning, implementing, and monitoring security measures for information systems and infrastructure to regulate access to configuration and data files and to prevent unauthorized use, modification, destruction, or disclosure of information. Specifically, the Cybersecurity Specialist achieves security excellence with emphasis in the following areas: data privacy and compliance, security breach mitigation, business continuity, and trusted learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field required. Technology certifications preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems required. • Knowledge of operational support of networks, operating systems, Internet technologies, databases, and security applications required. • Knowledge of information security practices, procedures, and regulations required. • Skilled in the use of applicable security software preferred. • Skilled in configuring, deploying, and monitoring security applications and infrastructure preferred. • Ability to resolve complex security issues in diverse and decentralized environments required. • Ability to learn new information and security technologies required. • Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal required.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in technology required. Experience with developing security processes and solutions required. Experience with leading technology projects required. Experience with endpoint security solutions, threat management, and processes required. Experience with basic network troubleshooting and wireless setup preferred. Experience with Windows desktop, all versions, Mac OSX, all versions, Network printers, all makes and models, Scanners, all makes and models, Mobile devices, and their OSs preferred.
WORKING DAYS AND DAILY RATE
226 Daily Rate pay range: Minimum $242.30 Maximum $338.06
Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each persons job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Essential Functions:
• Perform risk assessments and reviews of account permissions, system data access needs, security violations, and programming changes. • Support the implementation of system security plans with department personnel and outside vendors. • Develop plans to safeguard system configuration and data files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure, and to meet emergency data processing needs. • Modify and monitor system configuration and data files to incorporate new software and virus protection systems, correct errors, or change individual access status. • Implement continuous automated security compliance capabilities. • Monitor and maintain systems and procedures to protect data systems and databases from unauthorized access. • Perform technical risk assessments and reviews of new and existing applications and systems, including data center physical security and environment. • Regulate access to system configuration and data files and prevents unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure of information. • Research systems and procedures for the prevention, detection, containment, and correction of data security breaches. • Train users and promote security awareness to ensure system security and to improve application server and network efficiency. • Assist in designing and deploying security applications and infrastructure program activities. • Assist in developing information technology disaster recovery and business continuity plans. • Assist in encrypting data transmissions and defining firewall configuration to protect confidential information in transit. • Contribute to creating a cooperative, collaborative, high-performing, and solutions-oriented department. • Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. • Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor, primary evaluator.
