The Special Situations Specialist supports investment teams in the analysis, execution, and monitoring of complex and opportunistic investment situations. This role blends financial analysis, transaction support, and operational oversight to facilitate investments in distressed or unique opportunities.
The position involves close collaboration with portfolio managers, deal teams, risk management, and operations to ensure accurate execution, monitoring, and reporting of special situations investments.
Support the sourcing, execution, and monitoring of special situations investments, including distressed debt, restructuring opportunities, and opportunistic equity
Conduct financial modeling, scenario analysis, and stress testing to assess investment risk and return
Assist with due diligence, documentation review, and closing of complex transactions
Monitor portfolio performance, cash flows, and risk exposure in special situations portfolios
Build and maintain analytical tools, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to track investment outcomes
Research and track market trends, liquidity conditions, and sector-specific developments relevant to special situations
Identify operational or structural inefficiencies and recommend solutions to optimize investment outcomes
Prepare daily, weekly, and ad-hoc investment reports for senior management and investment committees
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field
Strong understanding of special situations investing, distressed markets, and complex capital structures
Experience or coursework in financial modeling, credit analysis, restructuring, or distressed investing (preferred but not required)
Advanced analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with Python, R, SQL, or VBA is a plus
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments
Clear written and verbal communication skills
