Class Summary

Job Description

Gwinnett County Community Services Animal Control Special Operations Coordinator is responsible for enforcing local state, and federal animal regulations, supervising and supporting field personnel and community relations.

Essential Duties

  • Supervising staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
  • Preparing and approving incident reports and preparing reports and maintaining records of unit activity and logs of actions taken
  • Overseeing and participating in the care, feeding, and disposal of animals in accordance with governing ordinances, federal and state laws and managing the control of contagious diseases within the facility
  • Completing and submitting necessary paperwork while acting as a liaison for payroll, human resources, workers compensation and purchasing for the division
  • Ensuring all accidents are reported to appropriate staff and all County forms are completed. This includes all reports to the Georgia Department of Agriculture, Georgia Department of Human Health and Georgia Department of Natural Resources
  • Performing inspections of animal control building, equipment, vehicles and workstations for cleanliness and service and ensuring proper usage
  • Acting as liaison between public, government and business sectors when dealing with animal related problems and in providing educational programs
  • Acting as a field training officer to new road officers and completing and maintaining all necessary training documents
  • Issuing citations and written warnings to violators
  • Conducting investigations related to animal cruelty, neglect, probation violations, and ordinance violations

Public Speaking Duties

  • Be present and/or deliver presentations in animal control department public meetings, briefings, schools, and other events

Other Job Requirements/Information

  • This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Grade

The grade for this position is C42(1) grade. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Parks and Recreation, Health and Human Services, Senior Services, Animal Science or other related degree AND

  • Four years of recreation or animal control experience and two years of supervisory experience.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

  • Valid drivers license

  • CPR and First Aid Certification within 6 months

Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications

  • Three years of progressively responsible lead and related animal control experience
  • ASP Baton Training
  • Basic Chemical Capture Training
  • Crematory Training
  • Euthanasia Training

State Inmate Supervisor Training

  • Pre-exposure Rabies Vaccine or Current Titer

  • Defensive Driving Certification

  • Preferred experience requirement

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

  • Additional preferred requirements such as management/supervisory experience, licenses, and/or certifications
