Position: Special Education Providence Assistant 2026-2027
The Providence Assistants primary duties are to support students with Down syndrome. They will collaborate with the Providence teacher as directed by providing instruction to students, creating and implementing modified materials, and other duties as appropriate.
Scope

The Providence Assistants role is to support students with Down syndrome, working closely with the Providence teacher to meet their individual needs.
Qualifications
--------------
The ideal candidate shall possess the following characteristics:
A strong, clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for the Christian Academy School System
Agreement and belief that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind
Previous professional experience with special needs children is preferred. The candidate must also:
Successfully complete the following:
Previous professional experience with special needs children
Copy of High School diploma or transcript of highest degree earned
TB test
CPR & First Aid Training
Criminal Records Check
Child Abuse and Neglect Check CAN
Must be 18 years of age
Accountabilities and Responsibilities

The Assistant shall be responsible for:
Assisting the Providence Classroom Teacher
Collaborating with the classroom teacher to meet student needs
Care for and treat each child with dignity and respect
Helping in preparation of necessary materials for lessons and activities
Assisting students with self-help skills, which may include toileting, lunch, and snack
Utilizing technology to gather data, work with students, create materials, and streamline information, etc.
Attending and participating in all Providence School staff meetings
Participating in recommended training programs, workshops, courses, and other aspects for professional growth as needed
Assuring each child is treated with love and value and taught that God made them special
Praying for each teacher and student daily
Performing other duties as assigned
Outcomes

The Assistant will:
Provide ongoing assistance to the Providence School Teacher
Offer regular ongoing support for students
Report on the relationship between the Assistant and the students
Reporting Relationship

The Providence Teaching Assistant works under the direction of the Providence classroom teacher and is accountable to the Providence School Director and the Principal.
