    POSITION: Special Education Teacher

    Full-time: .5 Case Load and .5 Special Education Consultant

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

    SALARY: Per Athens Education Association Master Agreement

    EFFECTIVE DATE: August 24, 2026

    Minimum Qualications:

    • Education: Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university

    • Preferred: Possession of a Master's Degree, or current enrollment in a Master's degree program, will be given significant weight.

    • Certification: Valid Michigan teaching certicate

    • Preferred: ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) or EI (Emotional Impairment) certification is highly recommended. Additional weight will be given to candidates possessing multiple certifications.

    • Skills: Strong foundation in the essential instructional practices in literacy and mathematics

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Instructional & Case Management Duties (0.5)

    • Curriculum Delivery: Teach and implement the Athens Area Schools-approved curriculum with fidelity.

    • IEP Development: Design, write, and effectively implement individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs.

    • Classroom Management: Deliver highly effective classroom instruction while maintaining a positive, structured learning environment.

    • Data-Driven Instruction: Regularly assess and progress-monitor student growth, utilizing data to actively drive and adjust instruction.

    Consultant & Departmental Duties (0.5)

    • Consultative Support: Serve as a Special Education Consultant, collaborating with general education staff, administration, and families to support student accommodations and interventions.

    • Professional Development: Attend specialized meetings regarding special education development and actively share insights, strategies, and updates with the broader special education department.

    • Collaboration: Actively participate as a core member of the building team to drive the continuous improvement of instruction across the school.
