Position Summary
The Special Education Teacher provides specially designed instruction and services to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role ensures legal compliance, supports student growth, and collaborates with staff and families to promote student success in the least restrictive environment at our New Vistas High School location in Portage, IN
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor IEPs in compliance with IDEA and state regulations
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction aligned to IEP goals
- Modify curriculum, instruction, and assessments to meet student needs
- Collect and document data to monitor progress and inform instruction
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff
- Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports
- Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility conferences, and related meetings
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress
- Maintain accurate and timely special education documentation
Qualifications
- Valid state teaching license with Special Education endorsement
- Knowledge of special education laws and best practices
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with inclusive practices and co-teaching
- Experience with diverse disability areas
