Key Requirements and Qualifications
- Certification: Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Special Education (Grades 1?5, 4?8, or applicable grade band) in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education guidelines (Bulletin 746).
- Education: Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience: 2+ years of teaching experience in special education is frequently preferred.
- Content Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Louisiana Student Standards for grades 5?8 and the ability to adapt general education curriculum to meet the needs of students with disabilities; knowledge of IEP development and implementation, accommodations, and modifications.
- Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills; effective classroom management; ability to collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families; strong organizational skills; ability to differentiate instruction; and ability to use data-driven instruction to support individual student growth.
