Job Title/Job Description: Grade 6 Special Education (Resource Room Teacher)
Broad Job Function: The role of the Special Education Resource Teacher is to provide direct implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), targeting instruction and teaching strategies, which support students in overcoming learning barriers and reach their full potential. Conducting comprehensive evaluations to identify students with specific learning disabilities establishes a data-driven foundation for all academic interventions and support services. Strategic leadership and collaboration with instructional assistants and general education colleagues ensures that the student's unique needs are met across all learning environments. The Resource Teacher serves as a vital bridge between home and school, by communicating and partnering with families to create a unified, supportive network for every learner.
Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters in related field. MA DESE Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, Prek-8 certification required. Training or Certification in Wilson and/or Orton Gillingham Reading Programs preferred. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Teaching experience within the elementary years is preferred. High level of organization to manage caseloads, document student progress, and develop/manage schedules. Professional Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions): Provide direct specialized instruction as mandated by student IEPs coordination of consultation with team members. Adapt and modify general education curricula to ensure accessibility and progress for all learners. Partner with general education teachers to co-plan and co-deliver lessons within inclusion settings. Conduct learning assessments to identify specific disabilities and evaluate progress. Complete state-mandated testing (MCAS) or alternative assessments (MCAS-Alt). Develop comprehensive IEPs with measurable goals and objectives aligned with individual student data and need. Serve as the primary point of contact for students with academic-based disabilities, ensuring all services are implemented and compliance standards are met. Write detailed progress reports, maintain accurate student records, and collaborate with inclusion teachers on grading. Develops and implements individualized lesson plans designed to meet specific IEP goals and objectives. Attend team meetings to discuss student academic needs and program development Provide instructional assistants and teachers with guidance, professional development, and specific strategies for academic and behavioral success. Assist staff in implementing positive behavior reinforcement and determining appropriate consequences in accordance with the Norfolk Student Discipline Policy. Collaborate with instructional assistants to maintain an instructional environment conducive to learning for students with diverse needs. Maintain open, regular communication with parents to ensure consistency between environments including participation in parent/teacher conferences and home/school communication logs. Provide parents with specific strategies and training to support their child's learning at home. Participate in professional development to enhance program quality and stay current with best practices. Manage supply requisitions and uphold all Norfolk School Committee Policies. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services. Evaluation: Evaluation to be performed annually in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the NTA and Norfolk School Committee and pertinent regulations and statutes.
Physical Working Conditions: Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building. Must be able to assist students who have physical disabilities. The majority of the workday is spent indoors, however also must be able to spend time outdoors for outdoor activities, recess, fire drills and special activities.
Salary Range: Bachelors/Step 2 $57,919 - Doctorate/Step 15 $117,048
