Special Education Teacher Assistant - Autism (CUBS) Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant - Autism (CUBS) Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 203 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023

Primary Purpose: Assist students and teachers in the special education Autism (CUBS) program and general education classes.

Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification: Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment. Educational Aide Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge regarding Autism preferred. Background related to working with children and parents. Willing to assist with toileting, feeding and other self-help skills being developed. Fluent in English (verbal and written). Bilingual preferred. Bus driver training as needed, or as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Support: • Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures. • Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel. • Assist in maintaining student records. • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises, and drills. • Follow teacher instruction and guidance. • Participate in planned in-service and professional growth activities related to Autism and other topics. • Create instructional materials as needed. • Maintain communication between home and school and keep a daily log of information about the student and his or her activities.

Student Management: • Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills. • Has the responsibility to provide direct support to students with disabilities as indicated in the student's IEP. • Follow the student's IEP and the modifications and instructional techniques recommended by related service staff. • Become proficient in students' individual communication methods and strategies.

Other: • Participate in the assessment of the student and in the preparation of IEP's, progress reports, behavior plans, data collection, and other documentation for program monitoring. • Serve as a resource to other staff on issues related to students' needs. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Equipment Used: Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer, and various office equipment.

Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands: Physical capacity to lift, transfer, and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g., ability to lift 50 lbs.). Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer. Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment, and other campus equipment.
