Job Summary:
The Wyoming Girls School in Sheridan is seeking a certified Special Education Teacher to support and inspire student growth. A background in Language Arts is a distinct advantage, as strong literacy instruction is essential to meeting our students diverse academic needs. This is a teaching position in a structured setting for delinquent youth ages 12-21. The teacher plans and creates a curriculum to help residents address Wyoming Content and Performance Standards from the Common Core of knowledge and skills.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and create a curriculum to help residents address Wyoming Content and Performance Standards
- Teach and interact with residents in a classroom setting
- Administer assessment tests to residents; measure and assess results
- Maintain education files, following departmental regulations
- Collaborate with other staff regarding residents needs and/or performance, and attend multidisciplinary meetings for residents
- Adhere to state, facility, and federal guidelines related to institutional education programs
- Provide consultation on special needs residents for other educational programs or security staff

- Occasional dorm fill-in duties and transportation of residents are required

Qualifications:
- Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate
- A background in Language Arts is a distinct advantage
- Knowledge of planning for instruction, motivation, physical, mental, and emotional growth, learning styles, and classroom management
- Knowledge of curriculum management and development
- Knowledge of basic computer software and operation of computers
- Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with civil emergency activities
- Knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors Degree (typically in Education)
- Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teachers Aide
- OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teachers Aide
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate
- Necessary Special Requirements:
- FLSA: Exempt
