Position Details
Job Summary: The Special Education Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership for special education programming and support to local districts, supporting SRESD itinerant service providers in their roles within the local districts. Furthermore, this position is responsible for assuring compliance with all State and Federal rules and regulations regarding special education and serves as a resource to local district administrators and staff, SRESD staff, parents, and community partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher with full approval in at least one area of special education.
- Michigan Department of Education approval as a Special Education supervisor or eligibility for full or temporary approval.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in special education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Job Responsibilities
- Supervise itinerant staff.
- Support compliance with IDEA and MARSE.
- Assist assigned local district administration and staff with all aspects of special education programming
- Assist with coordination and supervision of activities related to the district's staffing, re-evaluation meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and assist in the development and implementation of effective and efficient provision of programs and services in the least restrictive environment.
- Assist in developing and implementing professional development.
- Coordinate with and support local districts in matters related to special education.
- Collaborate with parents, area resource agencies, and advocacy groups.
- Lead and participate in State and SRESD initiatives such as MTSSS, START, and Transition.
- Support local districts in 504 training and development plans.
- Support staff in developing non-public service plans.
- Participate in county committees.
- Liaison to discipline groups.
- Hire and orient new staff and assist in their development.
- Maintain knowledge of "best practices" in administration of special education programs.
- Provide leadership in working with SRESD, local districts in developing immediate and long-range goals and projects.
- Program evaluation and planning.
- Assist with complaints, mediation, and due process.
