Salary: $104,110 - $127,700

Terms of Employment: 260 Day Contract, Non-Union. 12-month employee (260 days), 8 hours per day. Holiday, Vacation, Sick, and Bereavement Days. Health Insurance - Employee/Employer shared costs Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, and LTD - Employer Paid 1% of Base Pay Annuity.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Supervisor for ISD Center Based Programs provides instructional leadership, program oversight, and compliance support for center based special education programs serving students with significant cognitive, behavioral, communication, social emotional, and multiple disabilities. This position focuses on strengthening curriculum, assessment, instruction, and program quality to improve student outcomes and ensure compliance with state and federal special education requirements. The Supervisor collaborates with administrators, teachers, related service providers, and families to develop high quality instructional systems aligned with Michigan standards, individualized student needs, and evidence based instructional practices.

Certifications/Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in Special Education or Administration.
  • Current Michigan K-12 administrator certification.
  • Michigan approval as a Supervisor of Special Education or eligible for State of Michigan temporary approval as Supervisor of Special Education pursuant to Rule 340.1751.
  • Five years of experience in special education programs/services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, assessment systems, instructional coaching, and data-based decision making.
  • Strong academic foundation with experience supporting instructional programming and student achievement.
  • Demonstrated expertise in student behavior support, including collaboration around intervention planning and positive behavior systems.
  • Experience supervising center based classrooms or regional special education programs.
  • Knowledge of Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), PBIS, and trauma informed practices.
  • Experience supporting students with autism, cognitive impairments, emotional impairments, and complex communication needs.
  • Training in instructional coaching, crisis prevention, and behavior analysis preferred.
  • Prior administrative experience preferred.
  • Additional qualifications and alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may deem appropriate.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of center based special education curriculum aligned with Michigan standards, alternate achievement standards, and transition outcomes.
  • Support instructional programming and evidence based practices for students with autism spectrum disorder, cognitive impairments, emotional impairments, multiple impairments, and other complex learning needs.
  • Ensure implementation of specially designed instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, and inclusive instructional practices across center-based programs.
  • Lead, develop, and facilitate professional learning opportunities focused on special education curriculum, assessment, instructional practices, behavior supports, inclusive programming, and evidence based interventions for center based staff.
  • Guide staff in the selection and implementation of instructional materials, assistive technology, intervention programs, and curriculum resources.
  • Mathematics and Reading Coaching for Center Based Program staff.
  • Serve as the center based special education assessment coordinator by supporting the implementation, administration, compliance, and analysis of state, alternate, district, and functional assessments to improve instructional planning and student outcomes.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of alternate assessments, district assessments, functional skill assessments, and transition readiness measures.
  • Monitor instructional effectiveness through classroom observations, coaching, progress monitoring, and analysis of student achievement, behavioral, attendance, and program data.
  • Facilitate professional learning focused on instructional strategies, literacy, mathematics intervention, communication systems, social emotional learning, behavior supports, and transition instruction.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve instructional planning, assessment practices, student engagement, and educational outcomes.
  • Support the development and implementation of legally compliant and educationally meaningful IEPs that align curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student goals.
  • Promote continuous program improvement through data based decision making, instructional leadership, and implementation of best practices in center based special education.
  • Represent the MAISD at State/Regional meetings as assigned.
