GENERAL INFORMATION
The Special Education Resource Teacher reports to the Executive Director of Special Services. Her role is to provide supportive leadership to parents, local school administrators, and teachers in their effort to ensure a free and appropriate public education to gifted K-12 and disabled students ages 3-21 in accordance with PL94-142 and IDEA Reauthorization of 1997.
The duties include but are not limited to:
• Supervises LEA compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines. • Attends eligibility and initial Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings in assigned schools as needed. • Monitors special education records and confidentiality procedures. • Monitors completion of Data Verification forms in assigned schools. • Monitors and reports data for tracking systems. • Assists principals in monitoring IEP implementation and 90-day timeline. • Monitors confidentiality procedures in local schools. • Plans for Extended School Year (ESY) Services, which includes allocation of personnel, curriculum development, purchasing of materials, developing a budget, and in-services. • Completes review of students ESY Individual Education Plans and monitors sites. • Assists teachers in monitoring transition of exceptional students to regular classes. • Assists the Executive Director of Special Services in planning programs of instruction for exceptional students. • Assists in the formulation of instructional objectives that are consistent with the school boards education goals and in keeping with the needs of students assigned to special classes. • Assists in the preparation of curricular materials appropriate to the needs of exceptional students. • Develops and disseminates resource units, teaching guides, and other materials to facilitate program implementation. • Arranges transfers and transportation when needed for exceptional students. • Provides leadership and supervisory services to local schools in program implementation. • Works with principals to monitor classrooms and arrange conferences relative to program improvement. • Assists principals and teachers in working cooperatively with parents. • Completes formal observations upon request. • Conducts and attends in-services and workshops related to special education.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a Masters degree in Educational Administration or School Leadership or Special Education from a regionally accredited College or University. Must have a Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate in Special Education. Must have five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Special Education.
Duty Days: 202 Salary Range From-To: As per MCPSS Salary Matrix depending on degree and experience.

Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
