The Para Educator supports classroom instruction and behavior management under the supervision of school administrators and teachers. Responsibilities include assisting with educational programming for individual or small groups, monitoring student progress, providing supervision, and performing clerical duties.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, NCLB compliance (60 college credits, associate's degree, or para educator license), CPR certification, and within one year, CDA certification. Experience working with students with special needs is preferred.
Skills required include knowledge of behavior management, child guidance, core subjects, safety protocols, and instructional methods. Strong communication, rapport-building, confidentiality, and collaboration skills are essential. Basic to intermediate computer skills are necessary.
Job duties encompass assisting instruction, monitoring student behavior and progress, participating in meetings, supporting individualized plans, and promoting positive behavior and student achievement.
