Title: Special Education Nurse
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The Special Education Nurse provides specialized health services and nursing support for students with disabilities in order to ensure safe access to educational programs. The nurse collaborates with school personnel, families, and medical providers to implement individualized healthcare services and support compliance with IDEA, Section 504, state regulations, and district procedures.
Requirements
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) required
Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Implement individualized healthcare plans and nursing services for students with disabilities, including medically fragile students and students with health conditions that impact learning.
- Collaborate with special education staff to support implementation of health-related IEP services and accommodations.
- Attend ARD/IEP meetings and provide nursing input as needed.
- Conduct nursing assessments and provide recommendations related to student health needs and services.
- Administer medications and perform skilled nursing procedures in accordance with physician orders and district procedures.
- Provide skilled nursing procedures and chronic health management for medically fragile students
- Provide training and guidance to designated personnel regarding student-specific healthcare procedures.
- Maintain accurate student health records and complete required district, state, and federal documentation.
- Maintain clinic supplies, medical equipment, and emergency response equipment.
- Participate in professional development and maintain current clinical competencies.
- Assist with development and implementation of district health procedures and practices as assigned.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with state law and district procedures.
- Comply with district policies and all applicable federal, state, and nursing regulations.
