Roby Elementary is looking for an special education instructional health assistant. In this position, you will assist students with special education services within a highly structured resource classroom and in the general education classroom. As part of a high functioning team, candidates would be responsible for collaborating with and assisting Roby Caregivers (teachers and instructional assistants). At times candidates will also be providing for the health care needs of students during the school day in accordance with state laws and district regulations. Candidate may assist students with toileting needs at times. In addition, candidates must committ to being part of a positive school culture where all students are cared for and provided the proper supports to ensure each student grows.

Position Details

Hours: 6.5 hours per day (plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)

Contract Length: 183 days per year

  • 170 student instructional days
  • 4 holidays
  • 7 planning days
  • 2 extended days

Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date

Employment Status: Full-time with benefits

Employment Type: 10-month employee on the classified pay schedule

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Must meet one of the following:
  • 48 college semester hours
  • An Associate's Degree OR
  • High school diploma plus a passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam.
  • Documentation: Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.

Compensation & Experience Credit

2026-2027 Pay Scale

  • Starting Pay (Step 0): $16.46/hour
  • Experienced Pay (Step 10): $20.26/hour

New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience.

  • The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.

Payroll Note: While this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year-long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.

Salary Formula: Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate <> Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary. <> Annual salary ÷ Remaining pay periods = Gross biweekly pay
