TITLE: Special Education Resource Instructional Assistant

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

LOCATION: MSD of Decatur Township

Job Description:

The ideal candidate is someone who is able to build and maintain positive relationships with students and colleagues. Additionally, the services performed by the IA include instructional, clerical, supervisory, and behavior management duties. The overall role of the IA is to provide support services to the classroom teacher.

Job Qualifications:

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree • May require Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training (CPI) • May require health-related services, supports, or adaptations, including assisting students with activities and daily living • Cooperative with your team • Utilizes the appropriate channels for resolution of problems • Receptive to professional growth • Enhances self-esteem of students • Ability to positively communicate with staff, students, and visitors • Assist students on and off the bus • Ability to positively communicate with supervisors in person and in writing to receive assignments and directions • Remain confidential around others who are not directly working with a student (i.e., student needs data, etc.) • Effective in working with a small group of students and individual students • Assist the classroom teachers and with student class record keeping • Assist the classroom teachers in the implementation of the individual students IEP and Behavior Plans • Keep the Teacher of Record informed of academic progress and behavioral concerns • Assist the classroom teacher with student discipline and implementation of individualized behavior support plans • Tutor individual students or groups of students • Check students work and assist students with make-up work • Alert and inform the classroom teacher of any problems or specific information concerning individual students • Operate audio-visual equipment and computers for instructional purposes • Gather materials requested by the classroom teacher • Supervise students as assigned by the building administrators or classroom teachers • Maintain the same high level of confidentiality on student information, work, and progress • Maintain positive and cooperative relationships with all school personnel at all times • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities assigned by the classroom teacher and/or building administrators • Operate and use technology (iPad, Computer Apps, CANVAS, etc.) • Understands the importance of this role

Pay and Benefits:

• $14.00 per hour • 7.5 hours per day • 180 days a year • Health benefits are available and include medical, dental, vision, and supplementary coverage with multiple plan options
