Job Description

Elementary Special Education Coordinator

Qualifications

• Licensed Administrator of Special Education and other relevant certifications • Experience leading Team Meetings, comprehensive understanding of State and Federal Laws and Regulations • Computer software competency with particular focus on Special Education Database Software Easy IEPEdPlan • Strong knowledge base of Elementary Special Education Evaluation Curriculum and Transition Planning • Good writing skills • Exceptional interpersonal skills

Management of Staff

• Hires, supervises, and evaluates team chairs, related service providers, teachers, and teaching assistants in conjunction with the building principal and district administration • Provides training and professional development opportunities for general education and special education staff in areas such as specialized instructional strategies, accommodations, and inclusion • Oversees caseload assignments, schedules, and building-based due process compliance • Facilitates monthly meetings with team chairs, teachers, and related services staff

Management of Programs

District Procedures

• Supervises specialized programs and curriculum in programs • Provides general fiscal oversight for specialized programs • Works with Department of Education finance division relative to "Circuit Breaker" reimbursement program • Manages application submission and budgeting of federal special education entitlement grants in addition to seeking out new competitive grant opportunities • Works closely with the Director of Special Education and Financial Manager in preparing budgets for special education programs, out-of-district placements, and daily operations budget • Assists in developing budgets for special education programs and services • Works with principals and team chairs to support inclusion of all special education students • Recommends and develops programs with team to meet the needs of students in or out of district • Communicates to school administrators and staff information about each program and information about changes or developments within each ongoing program

IEP Process

• Reads IEP to insure compliance with state and federal mandates and program placement • Attends team meetings when necessary • Provides monthly report to Assistant Superintendent for Student Services regarding numbers of students on IEPs at each building, referral data, including outside placements, and private pay students

Salary per AAA contract

This is a 205-day position in the Arlington Administrators Association bargaining unit.

Responsibility for evaluating teachers and related service providers.

All employees must have a criminal background check CORI and Fingerprinting.
