Special Education Coordinating Teacher


Responsible to: Director of Special Education, Principal


Qualifications:

  1. Valid TN Teacher's License with appropriate endorsements

  2. Highly Qualified status, as applicable, in areas of assigned instruction

  3. Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  4. Competent technological skills

    Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Schedule referral meetings with appropriate personnel

  2. Meet with School Psychologist to review assessment plan set forth at and agreed upon at the referral meeting

  3. Schedule and conduct achievement testing and classroom observations, in accordance with IDEA State and Federal Regulations and District Protocol as set forth through the referral or re-evaluation process

  4. Complete the referral / re-evaluation packet and return to School Psychologist within the given timeline (no longer than 15 school days)

  5. Manage accurate documents in EASYIEP for pre-referral, referral, eligibility, and IEP's for students with disabilities

  6. Manages and maintains accurate special education students' files as required for Comprehensive Monitoring

  7. Schedules parent conferences/IEP meetings as directed by the system and as needed in particular cases; if necessary, these conferences may be outside the school day as directed by student/parent/guardian needs

  8. Schedules annual IEP meetings, behavioral, transitional, manifestation and re-evaluation meetings, ensuring all required parties are notified and required protocols follow the State and Federal guidelines under IDEA

  9. Consults with other professionals to address learning or behavioral issues with specific students

  10. Responsible for the distribution of required forms, checklists, releases of information, and meeting notices

  11. Communicates with parents/guardian regularly through verbal and written form

  12. Reports to the appropriate local/state authorities, administrative and/or consultative personnel when knowledgeable or suspicious that a child's health or welfare has been or appears to be a risk

  13. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material and facilities

  14. Participates in school level faculty meetings, system professional development and in-service meetings, staff committee meetings, and other workshops for teacher training

  15. Follow lesson plans given when substituting for the special education personnel while they participate in initial, annual, transitional and re-evaluation meetings.

  16. Participates and assists with compliance monitoring

  17. Report compliance issues promptly to Principal/Special Education Director

  18. Participates in Child Find activities

  19. Serves as a resource for general education teachers in helping them understand students with disabilities and how to meet students' special needs within the typical classroom

    General Requirements:

  1. Follows Federal and State Laws and adopted policies and procedures in accordance with School Board priorities

  2. Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest standards of public education and in support of the District's Vision/Mission Statements

  3. Maintains ethical standards, which include professionalism and the protection of confidential student and staff information

  4. Stays alert to best practices in the area of Special Education and stays

    abreast of legal updates

    5. Other responsibilities and/or duties may be required and assigned
