The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. It has a three-part mission: 1) to assist students in developing the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their community; 2) to contribute to the community through student research, service, and leadership; and 3) to improve teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leaders. Woodlawn educates students in grades 6 - 12.
Position Summary:
Special Education Clerk will provide essential administrative support to the Special Education Case Manager and the special education department to ensure the efficient and compliant operation of special education services to students and families.
Under the general supervision of the Special Education Case Manager, this position requires a professional who will perform a variety of administrative duties independently with daily follow-up with the Special Education Case Manager.
This is a 12-month position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with the case manager to assist with all clerical duties, including preparing and sending notifications to families, requisitioning and tracking signatures for consent forms, and ensuring timely distribution of all required documents.
Maintain accurate student records, coordinating meetings (including IEP and eligibility meetings), and facilitating communication between staff, families, and district personnel.
Track, organize and maintain extensive confidential files on all special education students at the Woodlawn Campus.
Provide general office support to the case manager, special education teachers and school administrators.
Maintain special education data and produce department reports as needed.
Assist case manager with professional development, presentations and special projects.
Process submitted IEP's and review for accuracy and compliance.
Maintain awareness of compliance with federal and state regulations regarding Special Education.
Attend school and/or district trainings and meetings, as needed.
Oversee process of receiving special education student records of incoming students
Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
High School Diploma supplemented by at least 3-5 years of administrative work experience required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
Possess a clear understanding of special education processes
Experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerSchool, IMPACT/Aspen, and SchoolMint
Strong customer service skills
Strong organizational skills
Attention to detail
Experience with various office equipment, including maintenance and troubleshooting
Typing skills of at least 40-50 words per minute required
Commitment to the success and achievement of all students, and especially diverse learners.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.
Salary Range
$45,000 - $60,000
The included pay rate or range represents the University of Chicago Charter School's good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting. The salary will be commensurate of years of experience and education.
