Position: Special Education Bus Aide
Job Summary:
The Special Education Bus Aide provides support to students with disabilities during transportation to and from school, ensuring a safe, positive, and orderly environment while assisting the bus driver with student supervision and individual student needs.
Essential Duties:
- Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus safely.
- Secure wheelchairs, safety harnesses, and other adaptive equipment as needed.
- Supervise students during transportation and help maintain appropriate behavior.
- Provide assistance with student needs as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or transportation plans.
- Support students during emergency evacuations and follow all safety procedures.
- Communicate concerns regarding student behavior, health, or safety to the bus driver and appropriate school personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Attend required trainings, including safety and crisis intervention, as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with students with disabilities.
- Ability to lift, assist, and physically support students when necessary.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Must pass all required background checks and complete required district training.
