JOB TITLE: Special Education Assistant
CLASSIFICATION: Non-contracted support
JOB OBJECTIVE: The Platteville School District is hiring Special Education Assistants at multiple locations for the 2026-27 school year. The Special Education Assistant works under the supervision of a licensed Special Education Teacher in a school or district whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting lesson plans, providing technical assistance to the teacher, assisting with classroom function and behavior management, and other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for the Special Education Assistant position must be eligible to hold a Special Education Program Aide License issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) or another valid and current DPI license or permit. Candidates must be over 18 years of age and hold an associates degree or higher.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Supporting instruction
Delivering supplementary aids and services as defined within the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) under the direction of a Special Education Teacher
Assisting with classroom management
Administering assessments under the supervision or direction of a Special Education Teacher
Collecting data to monitor student progress under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher
Performing tasks delegated by the School Nurse to support student safety, welfare, and access to school based activities/functions
Riding bus or performing transportation duties as necessary/as assigned
