Junior High position will work 7:30 am - 3:00 pm

Middle School position will work 7:00 am - 2:30 pm

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Under the supervision of the special education teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Establishes and maintains a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense, emotional involvement.
  • Reads to, listens to, supervises, and participates with the student(s) during the school day.
  • Provides safety and security for all students in and out of the classroom.
  • Reinforces Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals for each student under the direction of the teacher.
  • Mentors appropriate behavior and social skills with peers, classmates, and administrators through example, job training, and social stories.
  • Regulates and disciplines inappropriate behavior and refusals to comply with directions/requests.
  • Provides support for students' daily living functions such as toileting, feeding/eating, dressing, mobility, etc.
  • Constantly surveys the classroom to monitor students' behaviors, moving to assist those who need help.
  • Transports students to and from therapy sites and communicates any behaviors the student is experiencing that may reflect on therapy session.
  • Supports students getting to and from the health office for medications.
  • Reviews students' schedules each day to determine their events for that day.
  • Assists in keeping students on task with academics either in groups and/or one-on-one.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
