EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Completion of forty-eight (48) college hours at an accredited college or university and/or possess an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university (Required for employment in Title I schools only).
One-month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Training in behavior management and restraint techniques as prescribed by the District
CERTIFICATION:
Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY:
Help meet the physical and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities inside and outside the classroom while temporarily assigned to Targeted Behavior Support (TBS) staff in a self-contained setting at the student's home campus. Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), including self help, behavior management and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of the program coordinator and immediate direction of certified teacher. Paraprofessionals may provide instruction provided they are working under the direct supervision of a "highly qualified teacher".
IDEA-B FORMULA FEDERAL FUNDED POSITION
The purpose of IDEA-B is to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities ages 3-21. The regulations implementing IDEA-B define the purpose of the act as a means to do the following:
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Helps meet individual needs of students with disabilities by providing appropriate physical and academic support.
Transfers students to and from wheelchairs, lifts/positions, signs, or interprets instructions for them.
Helps students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
Assists assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom - may include lunchroom, bus and playground duty.
Implements positive behavior strategies to manage the behavior of assigned students.
Intervenes in crisis situations and, using approved techniques, physically restrains disruptive students as needed.
Actively pursues running children in order to maintain student control, safety, and well-being.
Conducts instructional activities assigned by the teacher.
Assists in the implementation of modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities according to the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Provides support to students in various areas as directed by the teacher.
Helps teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
Helps maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
Helps with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Helps teacher keep records and prepares required reports as directed by the teacher.
Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, academic, and/or emotional needs.
Keeps teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Participates in professional development programs, meetings, and special events as assigned.
Regularly required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned task.
Maintains confidentiality of information.
Reports to work on time every day.
Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as related to providing support to students with IEP's.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, kneel, squat, bend, stoop, and twist. The employee will have use of hands to hold and manipulate objects and assist with student positioning, reaching, overhead reaching, grasping, and keyboarding. The employee is required to run or walk and may need to use non-violent physical intervention (to include possible physical restraint) to maintain control of students. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds individually and 100 pounds with assistance as lifting and transferring of students is needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must pass a pre-employment physical examination to include vision and hearing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to work in a confined space, exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is regularly biologically exposed to bacteria and communicable diseases. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
