Job Summary:

This position is responsible for implementing the department''s Continuous Improvement program on one or more shifts. Areas of emphasis include but are not limited to delivery of technical training to instrument techs, performance and documentation of quality assurance audits, TJC and AAMI compliance, orientation of newly hired instrument techs, promoting certification activities throughout the department, and supporting process improvement initiatives.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Creating, establishing, maintaining, metrics and KPIs relative to Sterile Processing systems Assists in the ongoing development and administration of hospital and department Quality Improvement program. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager. Recommends operational changes according to and in compliance with hospital philosophy, policies, national, state, TJC, and AAMI standards to the SPD Quality and Education Manager. Assists manager in the development of annual competencies, departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures supporting the hospitals needs. Performs and submits quality and environmental audits as assigned by the SPD Quality and Education Manager including but not limited to the following: Pre cleaning and transport of soiled instruments Compliance of disinfection and decontamination processes Proper sterilization practices i.e documentation, loading and unloading Instruments Tray audits IUSS and load recall reprocessing and reporting HLD reprocessing and documentation Review of all equipment, maintenance, temp and humidity logs/ requirements Assist in providing training for employees per the guidance of the SPD Quality and Education Manager in connection to process improvement initiatives and standards. Assist the education team in providing orientation training for new employees. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP Attends classes, workshops, inservices, etc. to improve performance and enhance knowledge base. * May assume additional responsibilities for the department when designated. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma General or GED General

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • CSPDT - Cert Sterile Proc & Dist Tech or CRCST - Cert Reg Central Service Tech

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 2 years sterile processing or related field experience with demonstrated knowledge of instrument sterilization techniques, Sterile Processing policies and procedures, purchasing activities, and surgical procedures. Required

Required Minimum Skills:

Demonstrated ability to set priorities with evidence of completion. Must have excellent communication skills. Should be highly organized with ability to set priorities and make adjustments as needed based on daily demands. Ability to work with all levels of care providers. Must be self-directed and self-motivated with strong customer service skills. Must be able to understand, speak and write English well to communicate with surgical services team.
