Position Overview

Scott Dual Language Magnet Elementary is seeking a skilled Spanish Translator and Interpreter to join our team. The ideal candidate will excel in translating written materials between English and Spanish and providing interpretation services for meetings, conferences, and events. Proficiency with graphic design tools like Canva and a strong sense of visual communication are also preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Spanish, Modern Language, or a related field required. • Preference for candidates with a Kansas Elementary or Spanish license. • ESOL endorsement preferred.

Responsibilities

Translate documents such as emails, letters, reports, and marketing materials between English and Spanish. Provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation for meetings, conferences, and other events ensuring clear and accurate communication. Monitor, translate, transcribe, and create high-quality verbal and written translations. Collaborate with team members to maintain consistency and quality in all translations. Use Canva to create visually engaging content when needed. Assist with student learning support, building procedures, and provide assistance to dual language teachers. Cover for office staff when not interpreting. Ensure equitable access for Spanish- and English-speaking families by creating materials for social media newsletters and the school website and enhancing school events and programs. Provide occasional language learning classes and support. Stay current with industry trends and advancements to enhance translation and interpretation skills.

Physical and Emotional Requirements

Ability to walk, sit, talk, and hear frequently. Occasionally required to stand, reach, lift, move up to 25 pounds, and adjust focus. Ability to interact effectively with staff and manage multiple demands. Occasionally required to work extended hours.

Requirements

• Fluency in Spanish and English with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages. • Excellent reading comprehension, clear speaking abilities, and effective writing in all working languages. • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy under pressure. • Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Strong concentration, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to adapt to diverse communication settings.

Terms of Employment

• 9-month salary with the work year determined by the Board of Education. • Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with board policy for Certified Service Personnel.
