Work Experience Description:

Ideal for students who have begun gaining relevant experience and are building their skills through internships, part-time jobs, or significant projects. Typically aimed at sophomores or juniors who have completed a combination of introductory and advanced coursework.

Job Summary

The SPAN 201 Teaching Assistant supports the course instructor in instructional delivery, student assessment, course management, and student support. The TA plays an active role in grading, tutoring, teaching grammar lessons, managing Canvas content, and assisting during exams and quizzes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support

  • Assist the instructor teaching Spanish grammar lessons during class time.
  • Assist the instructor during Thursday class sessions, including support during quizzes, written exams, and oral exams.
  • Hold one hour of individual tutoring per week for each student to provide academic support and reinforcement.

  • Assessment & Grading

  • Grade student assignments, quizzes, exams (written and oral), presentations, and devotionals in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide meaningful feedback to support student learning and improvement.

  • Course Management (Canvas)

  • Update student names and course assignments in Canvas.
  • Publish weekly course modules.
  • Post announcements and communicate regularly with students via Canvas.
  • Ensure course materials are organized and accessible.

  • Administrative & Collaborative Duties

  • Attend regular meetings with the course instructor and the other TA.
  • Assist with classroom management and course logistics as needed.
  • Support the instructor in maintaining academic standards and course consistency.
  • Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Spanish grammar and communication skills.
  • Ability to teach grammar concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience using and navigating Canvas is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain professional communication.

  • Preferred Skills

  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail in grading and course management.
