Space Planning Specialist – Site Growth, Occupancy & IWMS Support

Location: Kenosha County, WI
Work Environment: Active GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing campus supporting office, laboratory, warehouse, manufacturing, and aseptic operations
Contract Duration: 6–12 months, with potential extension based on site growth needs
Schedule: On-site, standard business hours with occasional off-shift support as required for field verification, moves, project coordination, or operational needs.

Position Overview

Automated Systems, Inc. is seeking a Space Planning Specialist to support our client’s rapidly growing Kenosha County site. The site is expanding at a fast pace, with hundreds of new employees and contractors being added across operations, engineering, quality, laboratory, manufacturing, facilities, and project teams.

This role will help the site plan, assign, track, and optimize the use of office space, laboratory space, manufacturing support space, collaboration areas, contractor work areas, parking, and access routes. The successful candidate will work closely with Facilities, Operations, Engineering, Quality, HR, IT, Security, EHS, and project stakeholders to ensure people are placed in the right locations to support safe, efficient, and compliant site operations.

A key part of the role will be supporting the implementation and use of the Spaceti Integrated Workplace Management System, but the broader objective is to help the site make sound space-planning decisions during a period of rapid growth. This includes balancing headcount growth, contractor onboarding, parking demand, site access, manufacturing flow, safety, lab utilization, and proximity to work areas.

Key Responsibilities

Site Growth & Occupancy Planning

  • Support space planning for a rapidly expanding pharmaceutical manufacturing site with significant growth in employee and contractor headcount using Spaceti Integrated Workplace Management System.
  • Develop and maintain accurate occupancy plans for office, laboratory, manufacturing support, warehouse, and shared-use spaces.
  • Partner with site leadership, Facilities, HR, Operations, Engineering, Quality, IT, Security, and EHS to understand current and forecasted staffing needs.
  • Help determine where new employees, contractors, project teams, and functional groups should be located based on role, work area, access needs, shift patterns, and operational priorities.
  • Identify space constraints, overcrowding risks, inefficient layouts, and near-term capacity issues.
  • Develop practical recommendations for space allocation, moves, seating plans, lab support areas, contractor areas, and temporary workspace solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate, reassign, repurpose, or improve underutilized spaces.
  • Assess space needs related to manufacturing flow, material movement, gowning routes, personnel access, maintenance access, and operational adjacency.
  • Assess parking demand created by rapid headcount growth, contractor utilization, shift changes, and visitor/vendor activity.
  • Evaluate pedestrian routes, site access points, contractor access, badge access needs, and movement between parking, offices, labs, and manufacturing areas.
  • Identify ergonomic, congestion, and access issues related to current or planned occupancy.
  • Track open space issues, action items, decisions, constraints, and implementation status.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Architecture, Engineering, Business, Interior Design, Construction Management, Planning, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in space planning, workplace strategy, facilities management, occupancy planning, campus planning, lab planning, manufacturing support planning, or IWMS/CAFM administration.
  • Experience supporting space planning in a complex site environment with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to interpret floor plans, occupancy plans, department layouts, seating charts, and facility drawings.
