THE ROLE
Operations Management
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the sow farm, ensuring production targets are met or exceeded.
  • Develop and implement operational protocols to maximize productivity, including farrowing rates, weaning weights, and litter size.
  • Monitor feed and supply inventories to ensure cost-efficient resource utilization.
  • Manage facility upkeep and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
Team Leadership and Training
  • Lead and mentor a team of farm staff, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Train team members on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices in swine management.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching to support staff development.
Animal Welfare and Biosecurity
  • Ensure compliance with all animal welfare guidelines and company policies.
  • Oversee biosecurity protocols to protect the health of the herd and prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Collaborate with veterinary teams to address health concerns and implement treatment plans.
Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Analyze key production metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to upper management, outlining operational performance and recommending solutions.
Compliance and Safety
  • Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations governing swine production.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies and conducting regular facility audits.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Act as a liaison between upper management and farm staff, ensuring clear communication and alignment on operational goals.
  • Collaborate with nutritionists, veterinarians, and other technical experts to enhance farm performance.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of sow farm management experience with a proven track record of achieving production goals.
Skills & Competencies
  • In-depth knowledge of swine production systems, including reproduction, farrowing, and weaning.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with a hands-on management approach.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and farm management software.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a farm environment, including exposure to animals, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing physical tasks as needed.
