Solutions Architect

About the Role

We are looking for a driven and skilled Solution Architect to help assess, design, and implement insurance tools that advance HDI's strategic goals. The role will involve supporting decision-making through the Architectural board, completing all compliance documents for production, and contributing to the greater architectural community within HDI.

This role is an exciting opportunity for an emerging architect to develop deep technical expertise while contributing to strategic projects within HDI. Familiarity with modern integration patterns across vendor platforms, as well as a solid foundation in insurance operations, is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Architecture and Design.

  • Collaborate with local and global architects to define the solution architecture for Insurance related tool implementations, with a priority focus on supporting HDI's strategic priorities, focusing on scalability, performance, and alignment with commercial insurance requirements.

  • Design and document solution components for new Insurance tools, ensuring consistency with HDI's architectural standards and best practices.

  • Advise on configurations, customizations, and integrations within HDI's application landscape to meet business requirements for commercial insurance products.

  • Support design and implementation of integration points across the tech landscape (e.g. locally and globally developed applications, vendor applications), ensuring seamless data flow between internal systems and external vendors.

  • Integration and Implementation

  • Participate in build‑vs‑buy decision‑making processes, providing architectural input to evaluate commercial, technical, and long‑term strategic fit.

  • Evaluate and recommend integration patterns across third-party systems, and HDI internal systems, ensuring reliable, scalable, and secure connections.

  • Assist with the development of APIs, data mappings, and transformation logic for integrations with external systems, such as billing, claims, CRM, and data analytics platforms.

  • Partner with business analysts and developers to validate requirements, refine user stories, and support build activities throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Contribute to testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing integration points to ensure data accuracy, performance, and security.

  • Cloud Platform Management

  • Leverage experience to support the setup, configuration, and maintenance of cloud environments, focusing on best practices for cloud-native solutions.

  • Design and support integrations using Microsoft Azure technologies including Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid and Azure API ManagementAdvise on cloud deployment and integration strategies, with a focus on performance, scalability, and security.

  • Monitor the performance of cloud applications, providing recommendations for improvements and troubleshooting as needed.

  • Technical Guidance and Best Practices

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA, and business analysts, to ensure solutions align with overall architectural goals.

  • Stay aware of SAAS product updates, enhancements, and solutions that may benefit the implementation.

  • Participate in knowledge sharing and training sessions to build capabilities within the team, contributing to continuous improvement and learning.

  • Documentation and Compliance

  • Document solution architectures, integration patterns, and key decisions made throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Support adherence to security, compliance, and data governance standards within the architecture, collaborating with relevant stakeholders.

  • Manage / Support ADRs and Home Office approval cadences, including working with Vendor Management to support vendor solution evaluations

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on software development or technical engineering experience, with demonstrated progression toward solution design and architectural responsibilities.

Core Technical & Architectural Skills

  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise application solutions across multiple platforms and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of application integration concepts, including APIs, messaging patterns, event-driven architectures, and data synchronization approaches.
  • Ability to evaluate vendor solutions and recommend fit-for-purpose architectures based on business, technical, and operational requirements.
  • Experience working within distributed application landscapes, including internally developed systems and thirdparty/vendor platforms.‑party/vendor platforms.
  • Experience designing solutions using Microsoft‑centric integration tools, including Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, Logic Apps, and API Management
  • Understanding of legal, contract, and compliance considerations in solution architecture, including vendor solution assessments and enterprise architecture governance.
  • Any experience in building agentic AI for use in underwriting submission intake and scoring with Guidewire PolicyCenter would be a bonus skill.

Integration & Data

  • Working knowledge of RESTful and SOAP-based web services.
  • Experience with data transformation, mapping, and integration patterns across systems.
  • Familiarity with integration middleware or iPaaS solutions (e.g., MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or similar technologies).
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB) for integration scenarios.
  • Exposure to modern data platforms such as Snowflake or equivalent industry tools (Databricks, BigQuery).

Cloud & Modern Platforms

  • Experience with cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, or similar), including cloud-native architecture principles.
  • Understanding of deployment models, scalability, availability, performance, and security considerations in cloud environments.
  • Exposure to SaaS platforms and lifecycle management, including versioning, upgrades, and vendor-driven change.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and modern CI/CD approaches within Microsoft‑centric environments is preferred.

Business & Domain Knowledge

  • Understanding of insurance or financial services business processes, including underwriting, policy administration, claims, billing, and related integrations.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions while balancing short-term delivery and long-term architecture.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with architects, developers, business analysts, QA, and external vendors throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Comfort contributing to architectural governance processes, design reviews, and decision documentation.
  • Comfort operating in a global team structure (U.S. and Germany), with the ability to communicate clearly across time zones and cultural norms.

Documentation & Tools

  • Experience producing clear architectural documentation, integration designs, diagrams, and decision records.
  • Proficiency with collaboration and documentation tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Teams, Jira/Confluence, LeanIX and SharePoint.
