What you'll do

This role is to architect solutions for the Aviation product lines served by Viasat today in commercial aviation and business aviation sectors. The portfolio of products span between crafting end-to-end solutions for delivering broadband connectivity services for passengers and crew to delivering connected aircraft solutions and platforms to monetize service delivery.

The solution architect is thinking broad about the total product and business outcomes, focusing on solution-level decisions, links between systems, analysis of market requirements, and developing product level requirements to feed the development process. The solution architect will impact the overall business goals and outcomes by partnering closely with product and engineering counterparts in shaping the product definition and roadmaps.

This role will communicate with Product Managers to architect, design, and offer to market/customers by understanding available technologies (internal and external) to shape the product roadmaps of the future for the markets.

The day-to-day

  • You can expect to balance in-depth analysis with rational thinking and continuous learning.

  • You will be:

  • Analyzing the current technology environment (internal and external)

  • Analyzing enterprise specific deployments and roadmaps

  • Analyzing and documenting requirements from various product line needs

  • Identifying cross functional product dependencies to be analyzed and evaluated.

  • Crafting solutions as needed for quick go-to-market (GTM) opportunities.

  • Collaborating with systems architecture and development teams for various product needs including Viasat and 3rd-party vendor products and services, platform integrator products, and end-user components and systems.

  • Partner with Product managers to build and develop the roadmaps on solutions that drive towards platform developments for the various solutions aligned with the technology roadmaps.

  • Develop innovative ways to solving customer problems, collaborate with BU members and end users, and iteratively define solutions to find a fit with market needs.

  • Partner with Product Management, Development, and Business teams throughout the product lifecycle to realize disruptive product visions, maintain exceptional products, and position Viasat as a market leader.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
  • 5+ years development experience in applications (test, systems, SW, or HW).
  • Strong wireless communications systems expertise.
  • Proven ability with end users and present technical information to them optimally.
  • Experience with platform solution design and integration.
  • Travel is required up to 10%
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Communication system architecture and design experience preferred.
  • Experience leading technical teams and associated program activities.

Salary range

$120,500.00 - $190,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $149,500.00- $224,500.00/ annually
