Northrop Grumman is seeking a Software Engineer/Principal Software Engineer with strong Java experience to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical software systems supporting the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. NASIC is responsible for creating all-source intelligence defining the present and future air, air defense, cyber, space, and ballistic missile threats to enable military operations, force modernization, and policy making.

The ideal candidate is an effective communicator and problem solver who can work closely with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to a collaborative team of software, systems, network, and storage engineers supporting multiple networks and environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based software applications in support of NASIC mission systems.
  • Implement new features and enhance existing capabilities using modern Java frameworks and tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and performance issues in development, test, and operational environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and test procedures.

This position may be filled at a level 2 or 3 based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Software Engineer (level 2): Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 2 years software development experience OR a master's degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Principal Software Engineer (level 3): Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 5 years software development experience OR a master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years' experience.
  • Active Department of Defense Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
  • Active Counter-Intelligence (CI) Polygraph.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in developing software in Java (e.g., core Java, JEE, Spring, or similar frameworks).
  • Experience with object-oriented design principles, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Ability to work in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF), following all applicable security and handling procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating Java applications with RESTful services, message queues, and/or microservices architectures.
  • Experience with additional programming or scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with security compliance, secure coding practices, and related security scanning tools.

Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate''s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
