Pay Rate: $89.49/Hr on W2
Shift: Monday-Friday (8 AM-5 PM)

Required Qualifications
Education- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience.
Technical Skills- Strong proficiency in Python software development.
- Experience with source code management using Git, including branching and merge strategies.
- Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Experience developing and supporting production software applications.
- Experience working with relational databases and SQL.
- Experience integrating applications with cloud-based data platforms such as Databricks.
- Familiarity with software development and deployment environments, including cloud technologies (e.g., AWS).
Documentation & Quality- Experience authoring SDLC-compliant documentation for software applications.
- Understanding of software testing methodologies, validation practices, and deployment processes.
- Demonstrated ability to create clear technical and user-facing documentation.
Collaboration & Communication- Experience working effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Ability to collaborate with business, scientific, and IT stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and project-tracking skills using collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting scientific, research, or data-driven applications.
- Familiarity with data processing workflows and enterprise application integration.
- Experience working within regulated or compliance-sensitive environments.
- Exposure to biologics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences organizations
- Client previous experience highly preferred.
Assignment DeliverablesBy the completion of the assignment, the contractor will have:
- Delivered production-ready RESTful APIs for the SQUIRREL platform.
- Created complete SDLC documentation supporting application integration activities.
- Updated all relevant project documentation, JIRA tickets, and Confluence content.
- Successfully transferred technical knowledge and documentation to the Discovery Biologics Digital Science team.
Note:- Location: South San Francisco, CA, will closely work with colleagues on the Boston site as well

- Flexibility based on business needs

Position SummaryThe Discovery Biologics Digital Science team is seeking a highly motivated Temporary Software Engineer / API Developer to support the development and integration of SQUIRREL, Discovery Biologics' data processing platform. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, documentation, and deployment of application programming interfaces (APIs) that enable seamless integration between SQUIRREL and enterprise IT systems.
This role requires strong software engineering skills, experience with Python-based application development, API design, cloud technologies, and the ability to generate Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) compliant documentation. The contractor will work closely with Digital Science and IT stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of integration capabilities and knowledge transfer.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & API Delivery- Design, develop, test, and deploy RESTful APIs for the Discovery Biologics SQUIRREL data processing platform.
- Develop scalable, maintainable, and production-ready software components using Python and modern software engineering practices.
- Support application integration efforts between SQUIRREL and enterprise IT platforms.
- Collaborate with technical stakeholders to define API requirements, data exchange specifications, and integration workflows.
Documentation & Compliance- Author and maintain SDLC-compliant documentation, including:
- System requirements and functional specifications
- API documentation
- Test plans and validation documentation
- Deployment and release procedures
- User guides and support documentation
- Ensure documentation meets organizational standards and supports future maintenance and integration activities.
Collaboration & Project ExecutionWork under the direct supervision of the South San Francisco (SSF) Digital Science Lead and in close collaboration with the
- Boston (BOS) Digital Science Lead.
- Participate in technical reviews, sprint planning, and project discussions with Digital Science and IT teams.
- Provide regular status updates during biweekly and monthly project review meetings.
- Maintain project artifacts, tasks, and progress updates within JIRA and Confluence.
Knowledge Transfer- Develop and maintain technical knowledge repositories and documentation throughout the engagement.
- Conduct knowledge transfer sessions and provide comprehensive handoff materials related to API development, architecture, and supporting documentation prior to assignment completion.
