Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Developer Experience organization owns the entire path from commit to satellite. This is a unique opportunity to offer this scope to platform engineers.

We will build a unified platform that empower Leo engineers to see their code affect satellite operations within days not weeks, months or a quarter. We will also provide a one-stop view enabling stakeholders to evaluate releases across all dimensions (acceptance, performance, security), reducing manual intervention, accelerating approval, and providing end-to-end traceability.

We are looking for a Senior engineer with experience in supporting mission-critical applications, who are excited about building solutions that enhance automation, stability, and release processes across multiple systems. You will be responsible for developer experience across the entire Leo, CICD and production services. You will work closely with engineering teams to deal with ambiguity, identify and address common issues, drive solutions, and improve overall release quality, reliability and operational excellence. You will build self-serve platform, automation, tools that enable Leo engineers to ship high quality software to space and ground, rapidly, securely and at scale.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

A successful engineer in this role is :

  • Highly analytical: You solve problems in ways that can be backed up with verifiable data. You focus on driving processes, tools, and statistical methods which support rational decision-making.
  • Technically fearless: You aren"t satisfied by performing "as expected" and push the limits past conventional boundaries. Your dial goes to "11".
  • Team obsessed: You help grow your team members to achieve outstanding results. You foster the creative atmosphere to let engineers innovate, while holding them accountable for making smart decisions and delivering results.
  • You're ambitious, yet humble: You recognize that there's always opportunity for improvement and use introspection and feedback from teammates and peers to raise the bar for your team.
  • Engaged by ambiguity: You"re able to explore new problem spaces with unique constraints and thus non-obvious solutions; you're quick to identify any gaps in the team and the right person to fill them to best deliver value to customers.
  • Own technical vision and direction: You identify problems and develop solutions; you embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques because they help you assess how well system-related services are running.
  • Build and grow your team: You"ll be a key contributor on an engineering team that delivers results.
  • Invent and simplify: You will apply the first principal thinking into your work and find a simple solution to tackle the fundamental problem.

So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
