    Description

Are you passionate about delivering quality services and ready to apply your experience at massive scale? Amazon S3 is the storage for the internet, and Amazon S3 Tables is the first cloud object store with built-in Apache Iceberg support, purpose-built for storing and querying tabular data at massive scale. It is fully managed, continuously optimizing, and delivers up to 10x higher transactions per second than Iceberg tables on general purpose S3 buckets, all within the same foundation that gives S3 eleven nines of durability.

We are on the lookout for the curious, those who think big and want to define the world of tomorrow. Customers are bringing their most demanding analytics workloads to S3 Tables, from streaming ingestion of IoT and application telemetry to multi-petabyte lakehouses powering multiple AWS and partner query engines, and a growing wave of AI agents that query data directly through the Model Context Protocol. Every day will be filled with exciting new challenges, developing new skills, and achieving personal growth. How often can you say that your work changes the world? At Amazon S3 Tables, you"ll say it often. Join us and define tomorrow.

Our team is at the forefront of large-scale data management, actively contributing to the Apache Iceberg project and helping shape the future of open table formats. We work at a scale that very few engineers in the industry ever encounter, shipping innovations that customers feel directly in query latency, cost per terabyte scanned, and ingestion throughput. As an engineer on this team, you will own the design and delivery of systems that make data ingestion patterns from any source system reliable, cost-effective, and easy to implement, while maintaining compatibility with popular analytics engines and ensuring optimal query performance through intelligent partitioning and indexing strategies. You will help define how Iceberg evolves in the cloud, partnering with the Apache Iceberg community and with engine teams across AWS and partners to make sure S3 Tables is the gravitational center of the open analytics ecosystem. S3 Tables is a new, fast moving team building within the most durable and scalable storage system ever built, the product is young, the customer base is growing quickly, and the surface area in front of you is large. If you want to help build something into what it can become, rather than maintain what already is, this is the team.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
