SUMMARY
The Elementary School Social Worker provides social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health support services to students and families to enhance student success in the educational environment. The social worker collaborates with school staff, families, and community agencies to address barriers to learning, improve attendance and engagement, and promote positive social-emotional development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
Valid Michigan School Social Worker Approval or eligibility for approval through the Michigan Department of Education.
Possession of a valid Michigan license as required by state regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Student Support Services Provide individual and group counseling services to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, attendance, or family-related challenges. Conduct assessments and gather information to identify student needs and determine appropriate interventions. Assist students in developing positive coping skills, conflict resolution strategies, self-regulation techniques, and social skills. Participate in crisis intervention, threat assessment, and safety planning as needed. Support students experiencing trauma, grief, mental health concerns, family instability, homelessness, or other adverse circumstances.
Collaboration and Consultation Collaborate with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, counselors, and other support staff to develop and implement intervention plans. Participate in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes and student support teams. The social worker will provide universal Tier 1 support by facilitating emotional regulation lessons in every classroom. Consult with staff regarding strategies to address social, emotional, behavioral, and attendance concerns. Serve as a liaison between school, home, and community agencies.
Family and Community Engagement Conduct home visits when appropriate and in accordance with district procedures. Assist families in accessing community resources and support services. Facilitate communication and partnerships between families and school personnel. Provide parent education and support regarding student needs and available resources.
Attendance and Student Welfare Monitor and address attendance concerns, including chronic absenteeism and truancy. Work collaboratively with families and school staff to improve student attendance and engagement. Support compliance with state and federal laws regarding child welfare and mandatory reporting requirements.
Program Support Maintain accurate and timely records, reports, and documentation. Participate in professional development activities and maintain required licensure. Support implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and other district initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
