Who We're Hiring For:
Our client is a prime civil contractor based in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire area. They have been in business for over 20 years and specialize in heavy civil construction projects in NH and Maine, including bridges, dam rehabilitation, utilities, concrete, excavation, and complex infrastructure work. They are a small, tight-knit company with fewer than 20 employees, which means each person’s contribution has a real impact.
Job Description:
Lead field operations on bridge, dam, concrete, utility, excavation, and public infrastructure projects throughout New Hampshire and Maine.
This position is ideal for someone who has worked in the field, knows how to get work built, and wants more ownership than they may currently have at a larger company. We are looking for a hands-on field leader who can read the plans, understand the work, direct the crew, coordinate with the project team, and help drive production safely and efficiently.
Position Overview
The Site Superintendent is responsible for running the job in the field. This includes planning and coordinating daily work, leading crews and subcontractors, communicating with project managers and inspectors, tracking job progress, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring the work is completed according to the plans and specifications.
This is not a desk-only superintendent role. The right candidate must be comfortable being directly involved in the work, including layout, equipment operation, problem solving, crew direction, documentation, and day-to-day field execution.
Responsibilities

- Plan daily and weekly work activities to maintain productivity and keep projects moving.
- Track labor, equipment, materials, production, and job progress.
- Understand project budgets, production expectations, and cost impacts in the field.
- Identify field issues early and communicate solutions to the project team.
- Maintain high standards for safety, workmanship, quality, and professionalism.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure site visitors are informed of jobsite safety requirements.
- Complete daily reports, timecards, work logs, equipment inspections, and other field documentation.
- Use field management software such as Raken, QuickBooks Time / TSheets, Tenna, or similar systems.
- Provide hands-on training and direction to laborers, operators, and other field personnel.
- Ensure company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and project-specific safety procedures are followed.
