The SSHO/Site Safety Manager will be on-site full-time during construction operations and work closely with Operations, Quality, HR, Project Managers, and field teams to promote a strong, proactive safety culture.

What You’ll Do

Safety Program Leadership

  • Serve as the designated SSHO for construction projects, including federal design-build projects
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Field Safety Program, Safety Manual, Accident Prevention Plan (APP), and Job Safety Plan (JSP) templates
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA standards, including 29 CFR 1926, and all contract safety requirements
  • Maintain authority to stop work for unsafe conditions or practices

Job Safety Planning & Compliance

  • Write, review, and manage project-specific Job Safety Plans (JSPs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for all scopes of work, including high-risk activities
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to ensure safety plans reflect actual field conditions and sequencing
  • Ensure JSPs and JSAs are communicated, reviewed, and understood by all field crews prior to work execution

Field Oversight & Inspections

  • Conduct regular job site safety inspections to identify hazards and verify compliance
  • Monitor construction activities involving heavy equipment, excavation, steel erection, welding, confined space entry, fall protection, and work at height
  • Maintain a strong field presence to coach safe behaviors and reinforce safety expectations

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Lead all incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
  • Maintain all required safety logs, reports, and documentation
  • Track safety metrics, analyze trends, and prepare reports for project leadership and senior management

Training & Coordination

  • Develop and deliver field safety training, including toolbox talks, safety meetings, and safety committee activities
  • Support HR with new hire safety onboarding, subcontractor safety requirements, and return-to-work processes
  • Manage PPE and safety equipment distribution, inspection, and compliance
  • Serve as the primary safety representative during OSHA inspections, client audits, and insurance reviews

Note: The Construction Quality Control Manager may serve in the SSHO role if qualified.

What You Bring

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of construction safety experience, including experience serving as an SSHO
  • Prior experience as SSHO on at least two (2) federal design-build projects, each with a construction value of $5 million or more
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards, including 29 CFR 1926
  • Proven ability to write and manage Job Safety Plans (JSPs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
  • In-depth understanding of construction hazards and risk mitigation strategies
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and reporting abilities
  • Ability to influence safety culture and behavior without direct authority
  • Comfortable working outdoors in active construction environments and traveling between job sites
  • Ability to be on-site full-time during active construction operations
