Overview:

Under the direction of the Simulation Director, Manager, or Faculty Coordinator, the Simulation Assistant is responsible for assisting the simulation team in executing various simulation labs and activities. This role involves the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of simulation equipment, including performing basic repairs when necessary. The Simulation Assistant is familiar with the various modalities of simulation education and possesses a working knowledge of simulation educational principles; this allows them to effectively contribute to the setup, delivery, and takedown of simulation education sessions. They will also assist with staff on-boarding and other activities as required. The Simulation Assistant demonstrates the ability to take initiative and provide direction in fast-paced simulation environments without direct supervisory authority.

Responsibilities:
  1. Maintains a beginner level of current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment and operation manuals.
  2. Assists in overseeing day-to-day simulation activities.
  3. Assists in preparing simulation activity materials, including but not limited to dispersing the materials.
  4. Makes copies of materials as needed and as requested.
  5. Sets up and takes down simulation laboratory equipment.
  6. Collaborates with supervisors to organize, maintain, and restock skills lab and simulation laboratory supplies.
  7. Provides technical assistance and support to faculty, instructors, and staff in the use of simulation equipment.
  8. Provides guidance and direction to simulation participants, assistants, and standardized patients during lab activities to support smooth operation and learning objectives.
  9. Assists with documentation, data collection, and operational support related to simulation accreditation standards (e.g., SSH), quality improvement, and internal reviews.
  10. Utilizes internal scheduling, inventory, and documentation systems to support simulation activities and maintain operational continuity.
  11. Provides recommendations on equipment, supplies, and materials.
  12. Maintains simulation activities and learner confidentiality per university and FERPA guidelines.
  13. Provides tours of the simulation space for visitors, which often consist of potential or current donors, faculty, campus administrators, and external partners.
  14. Represents the simulation space in a professional manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Touro University Nevada. 
  15. Actively participates in and attends ongoing education and training offered by the simulation center to maintain proficiency in the simulation model and accreditation standards.
  16. Attends and actively contributes to simulation staff meetings.
  17. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in a simulation lab with simulation software, standardized patients, and high-fidelity manikins, or equivalent education.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with the operation of personal computers.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with audio-visual equipment.
  • Interest in healthcare education, simulation operations, or academic medicine.

Skills & Abilities:      

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), and the ability to interact and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful, and cooperative manner.
  • Experience with providing technical support in networking, computer hardware, or software.
  • Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.
  • Mechanical skills to use equipment in the simulation center.
  • Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology.
  • Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual, and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
