Position Details
Terms of Employment: 1. Sign Language Interpreter for Iosco RESA 2. Rate of Pay: EIPA 4.0 (elementary/secondary) State of Michigan - $40.00 per hour - contracted. 3. One contracted position based out of Iosco RESA. 4. Start Date: As soon as possible
General Summary of Position: Working within the Deaf/Hard of Hearing program and reporting to the Director of Special Education, the Sign Language Interpreter will provide instructional support via translation between spoken and sign language communication for specifically assigned students. The Interpreter will also assist the teacher with other teaching/learning activities and work with teacher as a member of an instructional team. Must have the ability to follow established policies, procedures, and protocols. Effective oral/written communication skills and be able to work cooperatively.
Essential Responsibilities: 1. To provide translation between spoken/sign language in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, special education classroom, regular education classrooms, vocational programs, work sites, or other special activities such as extracurricular activities and non-academic situations. 2. Utilizes instructional plans, strategies, methods, materials and techniques that meet the individual educational needs of students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing. 3. Assists the teacher by working with students on individual and/or small group instructional activities. 4. Participates as part of an IEP team in planning educational programs for students. 5. Attends all required workshops and in-services. 6. Demonstrates a positive attitude in working with students, parents, other staff members and community members. 7. To maintain confidentiality with respect to student, parent and staff information. 8. To ensure a safe environment for students as all times. 9. Must be willing to receive additional training to improve job skills. 10. To meet and greet visitors in a positive and helpful manner.
Other Responsibilities: 1. To implement and maintain daily lesson plans as developed by the teacher. 2. Other duties as assigned by Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher and Administration.
Required Qualifications: 1. EIPA 4.0, elementary/secondary endorsement (State of Michigan Interpreters Minimum Standard Levels). 2. Excellent oral/written and comprehension skills required. 3. Must be able to work effectively with others as a team member in a work team environment. 4. Ability to lift and assist students as necessary. 5. Must have good attendance history.
