About the Job

This position supports operation of Arboretum on-site shuttling operations. Shuttle drivers help create a safe, positive visitor experience by engaging guests with curiosity and a spirit of discovery, sharing information about the Arboretum, and supporting access for visitors of all abilities. Responsibilities include driving the Arboretum's 24-passenger shuttle bus and its on-site circulator vehicle, known as the Bee Line. Transportation routes generally remain in or around the main Arboretum campus, with an occasional need to local travel in the surrounding suburbs. In addition to shuttle driving, seasonal employees may assist with a variety of guest services and operational support activities as needed, contributing to efficient operations during peak visitation and special events. In general, shuttles operate May - October each year - weekends and some evenings required.

Position is located at Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, MN

Job Description:

90% Shuttle Driver

  • Drive the Arboretum's 24-passenger shuttle bus safely around 3 Mile Drive or the parking areas and off campus adhering to posted speed limits and safety protocols.
  • Safely operate a Toro 11-passenger vehicle (i.e., Bee Line Shuttle) which circulates throughout Arboretum main campus via Three Mile Drive.
  • Greet passengers, providing suggestions to visitors on what to see on their visit to the Arboretum.
  • Adhere to scheduled times to minimize waits at each stop.
  • Maintain radio communication with other shuttle drivers and supervisors at all times to coordinate operations and support safety and emergency response, as needed.
  • Communicate any issues during shift to supervisor and vehicle maintenance staff, as needed.

10% Additional Guest Services Duties

  • Provide occasional frontline guest services support, including greeting visitors, answering questions, and assisting with wayfinding.
  • Support special events, peak visitation days, and alternative transportation or parking operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and organizational needs.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Must have a valid Minnesota drivers license.
  • Must hold a Class C Commercial Driver's License with a Passenger endorsement
  • Ability to lift 20-30 lbs
  • Age 19 or older
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check
  • Ability to work as a team or individually and follow directions
  • Must have good customer service skills and the ability to interact with guests of all ages.
  • Requires the ability to stand or sit for up to 4 hours on a continuous basis.

Preferred:

  • Ability to communicate well with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic groups in a wide variety of situations.
  • Familiarity with Landscape Arboretum programs, grounds and buildings.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $18.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
