Responsibilities include, but are not limited to obtaining extensive medical history; assessing, diagnosing, and treating acute illness and those elements of primary medical care that are reasonable within the constraints of the nature of student health and the individual's certification; prescribing the appropriate therapies including medication; providing on-going medication monitoring; ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic tests including laboratory, radiologic, and EKG tests; assisting with emergencies; documenting all pertinent data in patient's electronic medical record; referring clients to physicians/specialist and/or other community resources as appropriate; and providing a holistic approach to patient care, including provision of patient education as appropriate.

Required Certifications or Licensure
Nurse Practitioner candidates: Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and "approved to practice medical acts" by the Joint Subcommittee.
All diplomas, degrees, licenses and certifications must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
OR
Physician Assistant candidates: Graduation and or completion of an educational program for Physician Assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and an active Physician Assistant License issued by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.
All diplomas, degrees, licenses and certifications must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
