Controller – Your Job Duties
You will run the day to day accounting operations, working in office with a small team and serving as the go-to resource for all things financial reporting and financial insight. If management needs a number, you know what it is and where to find it.
- Provide guidance, mentorship and development opportunities to the internal accounting team
- Oversee the daily accounting operations including overseeing AP, receivable inputs and daily accounting entries
- Perform adjusting journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger oversight
- Perform month end close process to accurately and timely close the financial statements and prepare the monthly financial statement package
- Identify gaps and opportunities to improve reporting, structure, and financial visibility
- Build, improve, and implement accounting systems, processes, and internal controls
- Work directly with third parties to prepare and provide ad hoc reports and other required information (auditors, bankers)
- Lead lender reporting and covenant compliance, delivering accurate financial data to bankers and auditors on time
- Own multi-entity close and consolidations across the company’s related entities, including intercompany eliminations and supporting schedules
- Oversee payroll process across entities in coordination with the payroll specialist and the broader accounting team
- Support the CFO-led budget and forecasting process by providing timely actuals, variance commentary, and close inputs
- Report directly to the company’s fractional CFO with one direct report initially
Controller – You Have (Required Skills, Experience & Team Fit)
- Prior experience performing month end close and financial reporting packages
- Strong GAAP financial reporting understanding
- Ability to analyze financial data and clearly explain the “why” behind the numbers
- Prior experience working in a fully in-office environment and collaborating with a small team
- Prior experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidations (3+ related entities, including intercompany eliminations)
- Prior experience supporting lender reporting and bank covenant compliance, including responding to information requests on time and with accuracy
- Prior experience as the in-house point person in a financial statement review or audit
Controller – You Might Have (Not Required):- Prior experience working with multi-unit operations / decentralized locations with point of sale system
- Knowledge of Quickbooks online
- CPA (active or in progress)
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve accounting efficiency, automation, or quality
- Familiarity with retail fuel, convenience-store, restaurant, or other multi-unit hospitality operations
Controller – Benefits for You
Your compensation will be $190,000 to $220,000, with additional upside tied to performance. Your on-target earnings (OTE) could be up to $260,000.
You will work in a fully in-office environment in Folsom, California where you have direct access to leadership and the ability to make a visible impact.
