Job Summary

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is seeking a Shop Services Assistant to join our facilities department. Reporting to the Facilities Shop Supervisor, this role performs a variety of routine work associated with the areas of machining, maintenance, electrical and/or carpentry.

Job Description

Essential Functions & Duties 

    • Set up and operate standard machine tools (i.e., lathe, grinder, milling machine, drill press). 
    • Work on drilling, tapping, and deburring of machined parts. 
    • Perform basic milling and turning operations. 
    • Assist with inspection and diagnosis of repairs; may modify and repair existing equipment and components. 
    • Perform routine carpentry tasks, painting, and electrical tasks as designated. 
    • Must be able to utilize basic hand tools associated with specific trade assigned (i.e. machining, electrical, or carpentry). 

Additional Job Requirements

Required Experience & Education 

    • High school diploma/GED, vocational school, or equivalent trade training.
    • Demonstrated experience in a mechanically inclined role requiring strong attention to detail, focus and physical effort.
    • Basic mathematical aptitude and understanding basic mechanic concepts to read/interpret drawings.
    • Written and verbal communication 

Fixed Hourly Rate is $18.00
