About this Role:
W.T. Byler is seeking an experienced Shop Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy construction equipment, trucks, trailers, and support vehicles. This position is responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring equipment reliability to support safe and efficient field operations. The Shop Mechanic works primarily from the shop location and collaborates closely with field supervisors and equipment managers.
What You'll Do:
Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and construction support vehicles
Conduct preventative maintenance services including oil changes, brake inspections, hydraulic system checks, and equipment safety inspections
Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components
Maintain accurate service records and equipment maintenance logs
Coordinate with field personnel and equipment managers to prioritize repair needs
Order parts and manage repair timelines to minimize downtime
Ensure all equipment meets company safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
What You'll Bring:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification preferred
3+ years of experience working on heavy construction equipment or diesel engines
Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems
Ability to read service manuals and diagnostic tools
Welding and fabrication experience preferred
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment
