SUMMARY

Reports to the Shipping Department Supervisor and works under direction of the department lead person. Must be able to follow verbal instructions in English and function in a team-oriented, continuously improving environment where safety is the number one priority. Unloads, receives and stores merchandise. Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.

Receives purchase orders into computer system.

Unloads incoming trucks

Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, records shortages and report discrepancies to Purchasing/Inventory Control.

Check incoming products for hazardous material labels and inform proper person for documenting and filing required technical data sheets in the SDS folder.

Keeps fork lift charges and batteries filled to proper levels with water.

Performs forklift safety checks daily.

Operates fork lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

Monitors incoming products with SDS labels and informs appropriate personnel.

Advises QA of deliveries that require quality control checks on selected items

Delivers and stores materials to factory manufacturing locations and office areas.

Fill out proper paperwork when items received from carrier do not have proper packing slips.

Delivers receiving documents to designated locations

Reports past due purchase orders

Performs other jobs as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to two years related experience and/or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to company vendors, freight companies and other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several routine elements in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to operate a fork lift. Must have knowledge of receiving practices and procedures and of the handling and care of materials.
