3367550No5238549710.00.026-May-2026Shift Manager I - MaintenanceUnited States Steel is looking for a Maintenance Manager, who will be responsible for supervising and directing skilled electrical and mechanical technicians to repair, maintain, and optimize the reliability of manufacturing equipment and control systems. Systems include various electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and HVAC systems, including PLC and digital motor control, on both stationary and moving equipment.

The Maintenance Manager must effectively communicate and collaborate with various teams, promote a safety-driven, continuous improvement culture, and leverage diversity and inclusion to deliver high performance results.

Qualified candidates will apply engineering principles, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques, and reliability best practices when resolving operational challenges and improving equipment reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe work environment by administering the U.S. Steel Safety Program
  • Directly supervise union employees and work closely with other internal work groups, contactors and outside service providers
  • Organize, coordinate, and direct reliability-centered maintenance activities, including work planning, scheduling, efficient execution, and documentation
  • Interpret equipment drawings and specifications, and assist technicians in diagnosing and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment
  • Identify, develop and implement improvements in methods and procedures designed to improve employee safety, environmental performance, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency
  • Deploy predictive technology to further improve existing proactive maintenance strategies
  • Perform administrative duties associated with supervising maintenance employees, including crew scheduling and work hour authorization, planned and unplanned maintenance work orders, shift logs, safety program related documentation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or technical / trade school degree with 5 years of manufacturing supervisory experience, or relevant equivalent military experience
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Desire to supervise employees and drive continuous improvement
  • Ability to work extended work days, weekends, and holidays as required

Preferred Skills:

  • Affective verbal and written communication skills
  • Troubleshooting / problem-solving skills
  • Experience working on mechanical and electrical equipment
