Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics

Under supervision, performs a range of specialized clerical support duties in relation to law enforcement including, but not limited to the following: criminal records, warrants, public records, sex, gang and arson registrants, restraining orders, concealed weapons, fingerprints and local criminal clearance. This class is used strictly in the Sheriffs Department.

Sheriff's Records Clerk is a non-sworn class that provides administrative and clerical support in the Records Division of the Sheriff's department. Incumbents staff the division 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Sheriff's Records Clerk is distinguished from Office Assistant and other clerical classifications by the responsibility to work with criminal records, maintain CLETS security clearance and meet Sheriff's department background requirements.

Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements

High school diploma or General Education Development Credential(GED)plus two years of journey level clerical experience including one year requiring public contact/customer service.

Valid California Drivers License.

Supplemental Information

A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
