General Statement of Duties
Performs professional and administrative Information Technology tasks related to the selection, deployment, maintenance, support and enhancement of IT solutions utilized in Public Safety and Detention Management for the Forsyth County Sheriffs Office. Works in close liaison with the Forsyth County Management Information Systems (MIS) Department.
Distinguishing Features
An employee in this class is responsible for the overall management and effectiveness of IT solutions utilized by the Sheriffs Office. Work includes appropriate interaction with a variety of outside vendors, the county MIS department, judicial agencies and sheriffs office staff. Collaborates with the City of WS Police Department to achieve and maintain efficient sharing of data. The employee also supervises all IT support staff within the entire sheriffs office.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from a four-year college with a degree in computer science or information technologies and at least four years experience in related field. Prefer experience with OSSI Software, vendor certifications in hardware maintenance and supervising. Also prefer a broad range of knowledge, experience and exposure to application software, operating software, operating systems software, networking protocols, as well as hardware and software. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement. A four-year degree outside of the relevant academic field plus additional years of relevant experience may also be considered.
Incumbents of this classification are not entitled to special law enforcement benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises IT support staff
Prepares and manages division budget
Reviews and recommends IT equipment and components
Researches and recommends IT solutions and vendor services
Prepares RFP specifications where applicable
Participates in Grant preparation where applicable
Participates in diagnoses and resolution to problems with IT solutions
Performs Project Management tasks for implementation of IT solutions
Prepares Policy and Procedure related to use of IT solutions and interaction with vendors, agencies and county departments
Performs work towards establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship between the Sheriffs Office IT staff and both the Forsyth County Management Information Systems (MIS) Department and the Winston-Salem Police Department IT staff
Monitors effectiveness of IT solutions
Responsible for maintaining the integrity of data through observation, reporting and training
Maintains high level of awareness and knowledge pertaining to IT solutions for the Sheriffs Office, allowing for sound future recommendations or changes
Performs related work as required
