The City of Savannah Fleet Services Department is looking for an energetic, forward-thinking individual to join our team as a Service Writer. This position is responsible for the scheduling of maintenance and repairs for equipment and vehicles citywide. Essential Job Functions

  • Schedules and coordinates the maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains vehicle information, maintenance and repair records in computerized system.
  • Identify best times to perform preventative maintenance and scheduled repairs by partnering with external departments and understanding their scheduling needs.
  • Coordinates maintenance schedules with external department staff.
  • Communicate requirements of maintenance procedures including cool down times and times of scheduling.
  • Assist in identifying and providing spare equipment or loaner vehicles as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least 2 years of experience in a shop environment with parts or scheduling experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.

Work Schedule: M-F 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Additional Requirements

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

Minimum Standards

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Service Writer Lead assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include city and department rules and regulations and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties in the coordination of vehicle maintenance. Equipment breakdowns and database management contribute to the complexity of the position.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to coordinate vehicle maintenance. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency of citywide fleet operations.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, vendors, and members of the general public.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, provide services, and resolve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects and distinguishes between shades of color.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in the office and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and cold or inclement weather conditions.
